Tapestry Trend

The Tapestry Trend: How to Bring Woven Warmth into Your Home

There are few decorative traditions that carry as much history as the tapestry. For centuries, woven hangings brought warmth, colour and storytelling to the walls of homes grand and humble alike ~ softening cold stone, marking the seasons, and turning a room into something layered and lived-in. It’s that same feeling the tapestry trend brings back today: a love of texture, rich colour and pattern with a sense of heritage behind it.

Through wallpaper, murals and soft furnishings, the tapestry look is wonderfully easy to bring into a modern home. Here’s how to weave a little of it into your own space.

What is the tapestry trend?

At its heart, the tapestry trend is a celebration of texture and craft. It draws on the intricate, densely patterned designs of traditional woven hangings ~ scrolling paisleys, folk-art motifs, botanical borders and faded, painterly colour ~ and reimagines them for the way we live now. The palette tends towards the warm and grounded: olive and forest greens, deep petrol and midnight blues, clay, putty and soft terracottas.

Part of its appeal is that it feels collected rather than decorated ~ a look with depth and a story, rather than something brand new and untouched. It sits beautifully alongside natural materials, antique furniture and a more maximalist way of decorating, but a single tapestry-inspired wall can bring that same richness to a pared-back room just as easily.

Tapestry wallpaper

The simplest way to incorporate this trend is with wallpaper. Our Bodenham Autumn Wallpaper design captures the woven look beautifully, its intricate, faded design reading almost like cloth on the wall. It comes in a beautiful range of colourways ~ a rich green, a twilight blue, a dramatic charcoal and characterful soft-sage ~ so there’s a shade to suit every space.

For something with a more scrolling, decorative feel, our new Paisley Tapestry design brings a timeless paisley to life in tapestry style, available in Willow, Petrol, Linen and Teal. Each design has been lovingly hand-crafted by our in-house design studio to enhance every detail of the woven effect. A single feature wall is often all it takes; keep the surrounding walls soft so the pattern can lead.

Make a statement with a tapestry mural

For the fullest expression of the trend, a bespoke wall mural turns an entire wall into a woven scene. Our Abigail Ahern Tapestry murals are a wonderful example, their moody, atmospheric designs bring real depth and drama to a room. Choose from a warm Clay, a soft Putty, a grounded Olive, or a deep, dramatic Shadow. For a brighter, more decorative take, the Paisley Tapestry Teal mural scales that scrolling design up across the whole wall.

All of our wall murals are printed to the exact measurements of your wall creating a look that is bespoke to you.

A perfectly partnered, full-room look

What makes tapestry such a rewarding trend to decorate with is how far you can take it. Our Daraee Tapestry design runs right across our collections, so you can carry the design beyond the walls and into the whole room. Dress your windows with matching Daraee Tapestry curtains in green or midnight, or choose a coordinating roman blind or roller blind for a softer, more tailored finish.

This is where our perfectly partnered approach really comes into its own. Choose a single colour from your tapestry design and echo it in paint across the rest of the room ~ a grounding green, a rich teal, a soft blue, or a warm neutral to let the pattern shine. If you’ve chosen an Abigail Ahern mural, her paint collection is designed to sit alongside her designs beautifully, for a scheme that feels considered.
