    Paula talks Purple

    Paula Taylor

Working on design and colour trends within the busy Graham & Brown studio Paula likes to keep abreast of all new colour and design ideas that are emerging for the future seasons. She is fortunate to work with many of Graham and Brown’s celebrated national and international designers and creates ranges with them from flock, flexo, gravure and screen. Paula also works on branded and own label product ranges for various customers around the globe.
Paula’s passion for purple is legendary and most ranges will have this colour in one form or another!
She likes to spend her spare time out walking in the beautiful Ribble Valley countryside with her friends, husband and son where they usually end up falling muddily into a local pub to finish off the day!

I’m loving the new softer looking purples in the shops at the moment. Next have a lovely new cushion range of soft mauves teamed with taupes and greys. It’s a nice way to introduce yourself to this tone if your not as hardcore as I am on the purple front!
When we decorated our bedroom with purple walls with a feature red one at the head I thought I was being very adventurous but it turns out that purple has long been a popular colour for boudoirs. The softer mauve shades provide a relaxing and calming influence to the room whereas the stronger shades are thought be a little more racey and theatrical! So my little refuge is pretty much hum drum in the scheme of things – even Leonardo Da Vinci enhanced his meditation with purple light!
I love the mix of berry tones this time of year and I’m often inspired by nature to try some interesting colour combinations. We are growing some carnivorous plants in our conservatory at the moment and the colours they are producing are fantastic.
We also have some chillies which we have just harvested – I love the colours on these.

Pintrest is a great way to gather jolly images together for inspiration. Check out this board I’ve created on my favourite colour!
