Disney in Fashion

As a leading wallpaper company, Graham & Brown pride themselves on being at the forefront of the latest trends, in order to produce cutting edge designs that break the mould and pave the way for others. This involves working closely with numerous well-known faces in fashion to seek inspiration and keep the company fresh, and relevant.

The fashion world too seeks inspiration from various places. And it seems most recently, their inspiration has come from Graham & Brown’s most popular kids’ franchise Disney.
Over decades, Disney has made its name as one of the most-loved film houses in the world. With classics from Dumbo and Pinocchio, to more recent animations such as Brave and Princess and the Frog, Disney films resonate with families far and wide.
The success of the Disney franchise has seen a development into toys, books, clothes and interior, and now, collaborations between numerous recognised fashion houses and thus magazines across the globe.

One of the most celebrated collaborations between Disney and fashion was the emergence of all things Minnie and Mickey Mouse onto the catwalk.

Marc Jacobs’ SS13 show at New York fashion week showcased the iconic Mickey Mouse figure emblazoned on a cute crop-top which became the IT jumper of the summer, worn by a number of celebrities including Miley Cyrus.

Minnie herself was given a makeover by Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz last Christmas for the Barney’s window in a gorgeous pink, ruffle gown, and again earlier this year for the 20th Anniversary of Disney, where Elbaz custom made her a blue, structured neoprene dress covered in glittering embellishment to reflect her stylish edge.

At London Fashion Week 2013, well-known designers such as Richard Nicoll, Michael van der Ham, Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness and Tatty Devine all presented 'Minnie Mouse Must Haves' - accessories and garments inspired by the lovable mouse's famous polka dot dress, bow and big, round ears. The one-off pieces were then auctioned in collaboration with eBay to raise funds for the BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation.

At Graham and Brown, we too have embraced all things Mickey and Minnie and here in the kids’ decor team, we have developed a vintage inspired Mickey and Minnie printed wallpaper for the 2014 Kids @ Home 4 collection to celebrate iconic figures Mickey and Minnie Mouse in all of their stylish glory.

We can’t wait to see what the fast approaching fashion weeks, kicking off with New York Fashion Week from 6th to the 13th February; have to offer and whether any more of our favourite Disney characters will inspire their collections.
