On 2nd September, we revealed our Design, Colour and Mural of the Year for 2027. As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, these pieces are a testament to our devotion to craftsmanship and creative legacy ~ a milestone to be truly proud of.

This year we’re proud to introduce our 2027 Design of the Year, Roselle Grove; our Colour of the Year, Rose Earth; and our Mural of the Year, Red Rose County. Together, they tell a story of craft, colour and heritage.

Design of the Year 2027: Roselle Grove

Our Design of the Year celebrates one of the most enduring stories in decorative design: chintz. The tradition began with Indian artisans in the 16th century, who used hand-painting and block-printing techniques with local dyes on cotton cloth to create vivid floral gardens and botanical motifs. Those designs captivated Europe long before they found their way to Britain.

Roselle Grove is our tribute to that history. Hand-painted in our design studio in gouache ~ a paint prized for its rich opacity, which can be layered to build real texture ~ the design captures the delicate whimsy of Indian chintz with an added touch of elevated English flair. It’s a piece steeped in history, heritage, and artisan detail.

“As chintz grew in popularity across home furnishings and fashion, European designers adapted the style, introducing larger floral motifs with a distinctly Western expression. Creating Roselle Grove as our 2027 Design of the Year felt like a natural way to honour this rich industrial and creative legacy. It traces the journey of chintz along the Silk Road, through Europe and into Lancashire’s mills, before it found its place in Victorian homes across the country.”

– Paula Taylor, Stylist at Graham & Brown

Bringing the design to life was a rewarding process for our studio, who thoughtfully blended a rich mix of influences and heritage references into a piece that feels both timeless and relevant.

Colour of the Year 2027: Rose Earth

Chosen to complement Roselle Grove, our Colour of the Year is Rose Earth ~ a warm, versatile earthy pink shade that’s both beautiful on its own and complementary in a wider palette.

Soft and understated, Rose Earth is wonderfully easy to work with. Pair it with new shades like Kelp and Sue’s Jumper to cool a space down, partner it with warm neutrals, or let it stand alone to bring a gentle warmth to a room.

Its inspiration runs deep. Rose Earth takes its cue from the natural mineral pigments traditionally sourced from clay deposits in Italy, reflecting the timelessness of earthy colours ~ their depth, their reliability, their natural character. It’s a shade rooted in heritage and thoughtfully reimagined for today’s spaces.

Mural of the Year 2027: Red Rose County

Our Mural of the Year draws on the landscape right on our doorstep. Red Rose County is inspired by the rolling Lancashire countryside, capturing the region’s panoramic scenery through bold blocks of colour and expressive brushstrokes. Hand-drawn by our in-house Designer, Victoria Davison, it depicts a stylised view of two iconic local landmarks: Rivington Pike and Jubilee Tower.

Influenced by traditional scenic wallpapers, the mural places craftsmanship at its heart, with visible texture adding depth and bringing the scene to life. The result is a contemporary interpretation of Lancashire’s natural beauty that celebrates both place and artistry.

80 years of craft, colour and heritage

“It is always a highlight to reveal our Design, Colour and Mural of the Year, but as we celebrate our 80th anniversary, this year’s announcement feels even more special. It’s a proud milestone for the business, and one I believe my great-grandfather would have been incredibly proud to see. Together, these designs tell a story of craft, colour and heritage, each in their own unique way. A devotion to craftsmanship is one of our key values, and we’re proud of the creative legacy we’ve built here at Graham & Brown. Each piece has been thoughtfully reimagined by our design studio for contemporary interiors, with beautiful designs and perfectly partnered colours that people will love and feel proud to have in their homes.”
