Lemon Ribbon

Melanie Bullock

Design Director at Lemon Ribbon

My passion for design started as a child when my parents bought me professional art equipment aged 4. My grandmother would take me to her art classes and enter me into competitions and help me develop. I would always have a sketchbook and coloured pencils in my bag.

To this day I feel just as passionate about design and trends and every day objects looking at new things to inspire our work.

Lemon Ribbon developed from my career within childrenswear fashion and design. I studied Fashion Design and Marketing at the University of East London, culminating with my final collection featuring in The Guardian newspaper. Having designed for the likes of Debenhams, Disney, La Senza, J Sainsbury's and various international fashion suppliers and trend forecasters, the overwhelming response I received from clients and industry insiders about my prints sparked a desire to establish my own print studio.

With the help of my business partner, Edward Weale, Lemon Ribbon continues to develop within the UK and internationally creating fresh original prints and graphics to sell and licence for different product platforms.

My design influences come from a wide range of sources. Swedish and Japanese design never fails to inspire, from vintage to modern. Vintage children’s illustration, toys, international magazines! Being creative to me entails a lot of travel or searching the web finding new inspirations from various sources to take snippits from to create something new and original. It can come from anything such as an old toy or postcard, books or museums and antique market stall finds.

At Lemon Ribbon we love creating little packages of imagination and have experienced a huge demand from the trade for our graphics. I’m extremely excited about the future as we develop and grow.

Day to day my passion for trends comes into play and loving what I do means I don’t ever ‘work’ a day.

We work on trend boards constantly in house to pin point key highlights we need to look at when we create new artworks.

We look forward to creating lots more fabulous design work for sale on a multitude of disciplines and working with Graham and Brown added to this.
